Hello Experimenters,

I learned that Tomonari Nishikawa, Professor and Chair of the Cinema Department at Binghamton University, died over the weekend. You might remember his name from past newsletters. There was a crowdfund campaign for his unexpected illness.

I never got to meet him, but another subscriber told me about a year ago that he was aware of this newsletter project (Thanks, Madison!). In 2015, a film I made in graduate student played at the Student Experimental Film Festival at Binghamton, and I regret not attending in person now more than ever. Tomonari was one of the first experimental filmmakers of color whose work I saw in film school, and I often return to it when considering ways to ruminate on the passage of time and nonlinear ways to consider it.

Rest in power, Tomo.
